Vladimir Dimitrijevic thanked ODIHR for the past cooperation and support it provided the Republic Electoral Commission as a long-term strategic partner. It was established that the Republic Electoral Commission has been working dedicatedly for years to fulfil the ODIHR’s recommendations and that its work, despite limited resources, has been successful evaluated by this and all other international organisations, observation missions and domestic observers.
Vladimir Dimitrijevic opined that the ODIHR Mission, which observed the elections held on 17 December 2023, prepared a comprehensive, realistic and balanced report, in which it recognised the successful results of the Republic Election Commission’s work. It was established that after the elections, the Commission has already fulfilled a number of ODIHR's recommendations and that it is still working on improving the election process and fulfilling the ODIHR's recommendations that are within its jurisdiction.
In the coming period, the Republic Election Commission and ODIHR will continue their intensive cooperation on the implementation of priority recommendations related to the training of lower levels of election administration, as well as the education and information of voters about their electoral rights and the importance of free and secret voting. They agreed that all these activities will contribute to expanding the capacity of the election administration and public confidence in the election process.
Matteo Mecacci noted that ODIHR has enjoyed a successful cooperation with the Republic Electoral Commission for many years and that in the coming period ODIHR will also provide full support to the activities of the Republic Electoral Commission, especially in the field of training for members of the election administration, the model of voter education and information, as well as the work of the future Sector for work support to the Republic Electoral Commission. In particular, he highlighted the current activities on organising and conducting training for work in polling boards that should conduct the voting in the elections for councillors of the Belgrade City Assembly, scheduled for 2 June 2024, in cooperation with the City Election Commission of the City of Belgrade.
